Dustin is involved in the Dallas community, both in business and social programs, and strives to bring education reform to the front of the conversation. He was interviewed at Social Venture Partners (SVP) early last year, and spoke at length about the benefits of being an active member of the education community. Read below!

Dustin joined Hazel’s in the summer of 2011 as CEO, and he brings a wide array of business experience to Hazel’s Hot Shot. Prior to joining Hazel’s, Dustin was a Manager in the Chicago office of Bain & Company, a leading global consultancy. At Bain, Dustin led consulting teams in their work with Fortune 500 companies on topics ranging from Supply Chain Optimization to Sales & Marketing Effectiveness, to Merger Integration to Portfolio Management. Dustin has worked with senior leadership teams at over 20 companies in industries ranging from industrial manufacturing to IT distribution to medical devices to retail. Prior to working with Bain, Dustin also spent time with Alliance Consulting, Fidelity Investments, and Walmart.com.

Dustin is heavily involved in the DFW community and is very passionate about education reform. Dustin serves on the Board of Reading Partners Dallas, the Board of Uplift Education, and the Board of Social Venture Partners. He also serves on the Education Council of the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce, Entrepreneurs for North Texas, and is a member of the Leadership Dallas Class of 2014. Dustin has a Bachelors of Science (BS) in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University. Dustin is married to his lovely wife, Denise, and has four children, Lilianna, Jackson, Hailey, and Maddie.

Q: How did you first come to join SVP Dallas?

Dustin: When I moved back to Dallas, I scheduled over 100 “coffee chats” to learn about how best to get involved in the Education Reform community in Dallas. During several of these coffees – including one with George Ellis – SVP Dallas came up as an organization I should join – so I contacted the Staff and ultimately got on board.

Q: What do you like best about being involved with SVP Dallas?

Dustin: SVP Dallas provides an opportunity to learn about dozens of non-profit organization each year. These organizations are doing great work throughout the community – and there aren’t many opportunities outside of the SVP Investment Committee process to learn about the work of these organizations.

Q: What would you say to those considering becoming a Partner?

Dustin: For those that are looking for a way to easily get involved in the community while meeting a lot of passionate people, SVP Dallas is a great way to get involved.
